Fifty years ago, the trades taught themselves. You learned from the technician ahead of you, made mistakes on real equipment, and figured things out the hard way. That system worked — until it didn’t. Today, experienced tradespeople are retiring faster than the industry can replace them, and the knowledge they carry is walking out the door with them.
Scott Oakley started eTech because he’d spent a career watching that problem get worse and no one solving it the right way. Not with hour-long videos padded to fill a course. Not with manufacturer-sponsored programs that teach you one brand’s way of thinking. And not with training priced so high that an independent technician or a small contractor can’t justify it.
The answer was simpler than the industry wanted to admit: teach the fundamentals. Teach them clearly. Teach them in a way that makes someone more capable on Monday than they were on Friday. Are eTech courses self-paced, or do I have to follow a schedule?
All eTech online courses are fully self-paced. There are no live sessions, no set class times, and no deadlines. You access the material when it works for your schedule — whether that’s early morning before a shift, evenings, or weekends. Once enrolled, you have ongoing access to the course content so you can revisit material when you need a refresher.
Does eTech offer training for companies and contractors, not just individual technicians?
